Making Waves: The Ads That Made Shark Week 2026

Shark Week 2026 pulled in a larger, more engaged audience than last year, and advertisers feasted.

Per-person, per-second ad engagement was up 16% from 2025 across Discovery’s highly anticipated annual summer programming slate, with consumers 30% more likely to engage with Shark Week ads than the primetime broadcast and cable TV benchmark. When factoring in this year’s larger audiences, ads during Shark Week 2026 were 73% more impactful than last year’s slate and 2.3x as impactful as the average spot on primetime broadcast and cable.

A wide range of brands swam to strong performance throughout the week — here’s a look at the four creatives that were most effective at driving consumer engagement:

Subaru's "The Search is Over (Consumer Reports) :30" is built around a giant golden retriever playing with a Subaru Crosstrek in the desert. The spot was 221% more effective than the Shark Week average, helping the brand outperform the average advertiser in this year’s programming slate by 138% over the course of the entire week. The other creative Subaru aired outperformed the Shark Week benchmark by 41%

Marco's Pizza's "Premium Toppings (Unlimited One-Topping Medium $8.99) :15" skips narrative for close-up shots of toppings and melted cheese, backing an $8.99 deal. Across just 5 airings, it was 88% more likely to generate consumer engagement than the Shark Week average.

Dairy Queen put fifteen of its seventeen airings behind one spot: "Miracle Treat Day – Be A Hero (July 30th) :15", which promotes the brand's Children's Miracle Network Hospitals donation — $1 or more from every Blizzard Treat sold on July 30th. Those 15 airings were 78% more effective than the average ad at Shark Week 2026.

ICOTYDE's "That Special Unicorn :45" is set in a doctor's office and positions the plaque psoriasis tablet as a path to clear skin at a low out-of-pocket cost. Across 7 airings, it was 64% more effective than the average Shark Week ad.

Four different products, four different pitches — but the same throughline: one strong creative was enough to carry each brand to Shark Week success.
